Prodigal Sons
On June 2, 1976, in a small rural community called Jericho, St. Catherine Jamaica, a special child named Calvin Whilby was born to Brenda Campbell and Desmond Whilby. At the tender age of three months old, his father took him to live with his paternal grandparents Eleisha Taylor and Hezekiah Whilby, in St. Thomas, Jamaica. Calvin’s loving grandmother Eleisha, worked very hard to provide for him while instilling in him strong christian and moral values as well as the importance of hard work, integrity, honesty and perseverance. Education was also very important to her so she made sure her grandson always attended and did well in school. He started out at Seafort basic and primary school, after which he attended Morant Bay High school. His favourite subjects were Mathematics and English he also excelled in track and field. As fate would have it, his beloved grandma Eleisha died when Calvin was only thirteen years old, changing his life forever. He was forced to grow up quickly and face the real world. Calvin left St.Thomas for Kingston Jamaica, where he temporarily stayed with relatives. However, due to circumstances beyond his control, he had to leave there and ended up living on the streets and selling in the market. While living on the streets, he met a lady who took him to live with her in Portland; he stayed with her for a couple years.
