Rational exuberance is the latest offering from Bassist/Producer X-File and Tabla maestro Aref Durvesh. This six track EP effortlessly blends elements of dubstep (namely half-time measures and dark baselines), Indian Classical and IDM. Durvesh's tabla and bols provide the rhythmic framework throughout, anchoring the listener in an ethereal set of soundscapes. X-File's highly textured synths, broken breaks, thick bass and effected samples form the rest. Live performances from guitarist Seb Cure and vocalist Dune add a dimension of musicianmanship that is sorely missing from asian electronica today. Together, the parts are a recipe for innovative and highly polished asian acoustica. S.C.
