Old School New Flow

Old School New Flow

An unlikely story stands behind the man known by many as "Chris Caleeko”. From what many refer to as a “street kid” to a barber and active leader in his local church, a life of disappointments provides a window into the saving power of grace he has experienced in his life, molding him into the artist he is today. Times were not always easy for this aspiring rap artist. Born in Huntington Park, CA and raised in Albuquerque after his parents divorced, Caleeko would eventually find a lifestyle many never imagine themselves to be involved in. He found himself immersed in a very diversified culture and awareness he portrays in his music today. Along the way, as many who have idolized the street life, Caleeko took on rapping as a way of expressing himself and communicating his mind. At age fourteen, he was a high school dropout and was heavily involved with gangs and drugs. At age seventeen, he literally took on the name “street kid” after his mother kicked him out of her house. In one year, life came spiraling down, and he racked up several felonies. He began seeking consolement following a difficult breakup and his cousin invited him to church. He accepted Christ that day, but the battle with his former street life didn’t give up fight for his life. He now found himself back in the drug scene, this time, trafficking and selling large amounts of drug paraphernalia. In 2004, Caleeko was almost caught during a drug transaction. In a matter of three months, he lost everything he owned. He met his now wife, Margarita and she invited him to Family Worship Center. In the parking lot of the church, Caleeko would, for the last time, light up and get high. In that service, his life was flipped upside down as the Holy Spirit convicted him of his sin and saw his need for a Savior. That day Christ invaded Caleeko’s life and he has followed Christ wholeheartedly to this day. His hobby has now become a passion that could change the lives of young people who are trapped in the lifestyle he knew all too well. The next few years included many struggles and victories before he released his first album “Sold Out.” Calling Albuquerque home, Caleeko remained excited about using his gifts of rapping and mentoring others. He began working on his next album, “Hammer and Nails.” Pouring out a genuine, transparent, relatable conversation of life struggles, pain and freedom found in Christ, Hammer and Nails released in 2012. Caleeko is not satisfied with just releasing music and albums, he has a desire to dive deeper into the street life and bring Christ to the people who listen to his music. A movement is brewing around the country with hungry, radical believers popping up in inner city communities everywhere. He prays that his music would redirect their lives, think about the decisions they are making. Every choice and every decision is important. He would like to reach people that didn’t have any role model or parental structure, people selling drugs, doing drugs, heavily addicted to drugs. Caleeko is happily married to his lovely wife Margarita and they have a daughter Trinity and another on the way.
