They were also featured in a concert review by Suzie Soule of Best Rock List who gave a phenomenal review of their performance while opening for Otherwise. 3 Days From Dying just finished working on their 2nd full-length album, Breathe, which is targeted to be released in August 2017. Band History: Originally formed in 2011, 3 Days From Dying was born out of a need to unleash their unique style of metal on the Chicago music scene, after the band that the three founding members, JR Daves (Lead Guitar), Chris Harbin (Bass Guitar), and Kurt Meier (Drums), were in at the time started fading from popularity. With an arsenal of music/metal influences at their disposal, over the next year, and still without a name for the band, the three set out to write and breathe life into the music they felt the Chicago/Northwest Indiana music scene was craving. After completing several songs musically, they came to the realization that, in order to have that full, hard driving metal backbone in their songs, it was time to add a rhythm guitar player and search for a vocalist to complete the lineup. In late 2012, they auditioned a vocalist who asked if he could bring his buddy along, who just happened to play guitar. The vocalist wasn't the right fit for their style of music, but it turned out that the guitar player had brought some recordings of the two of them, and when the guys heard his voice on the recordings, they knew they had found the perfect combination, an awesome vocalist who also filled the rhythm guitar slot. Enter Lead Vocalist and Guitarist, Z Shackleford....the lineup was complete. The band spent the next 5 - 6 months writing and honing material for their much anticipated live shows, but due to personal conflicts, in other words, "life getting in the way of their passion", the band dismembered in early 2013 without playing even a single show. In late 2013, life had become a little less complicated for the guys, and in the midst of a phone conversation, JR and Chris hatched the idea to just get together and jam for the fun of it. JR had been working in his studio, laying down some guitar tracks from the songs they had previously written, so when they got together to jam, he played a few of them. The spark had ignited once again... Over the course of the next 9 months, they worked in the studio, writing and recording material for what would become their debut album, but they still hadn't come up with a name. While overhearing a conversation between his son and a friend, JR heard what he thought would be the perfect name for the band. During this conversation, his son's friend mentioned that his brother, who was in the military, had just been shipped home after completing his tour of duty. After being home for a few days, he received word that the person who took his place in his unit, was riding in a vehicle that was hit by a roadside bomb. He was the only one killed. His Brother had said, " Dude, that could have been me! I was literally 3 days from dying!" JR took those words back to the rest of the band and the rest is history... To quote Andy Frisk of Shutter Magazine, "Drawing from a host of metal influences and mashing them together to create some pretty great rockers... 3 Days From Dying remain a band to watch."
