Dad Rocks!

Folk-hop // Guitar-gymnastics // Rock-music // Anti-core Band Members: Snævar Njáll Albertsson, Nikolaj Skjold, Iris Marie Jakobsen, Asger Christensen, Peter Skibsted, Kasper Brinck, Lasse Dahl, Thomas Rye, Jakob Sørensen, Mads Naomi   Snævar Albertsson, the founder of Dad Rocks!, was born in small fishing village in Iceland called Blönduós. Raised on soccer and fishing Snævar didn't know much about music until his mother introduced him to Elvis. Later on - after moving to Denmark - Snævar started learning Metallica songs on the guitar and eventually started writing music on his own. After becoming a father in 2008, Snævar started Dad Rocks!, and recorded his debut EP 'Digital Age' with three good friends in Jutland, Denmark. The EP was released in Denmark and in the UK and is now sold out.   In 2011 Dad Rocks! recorded and released Mount Modern. The music is inspired by different artists such as Bill Callahan, Owen, Why?, Akron/Family and Do Make Say Think. The name itself, Dad Rocks!, is more than just a pun on the ‘dad rock’ genre: it’s a tribute to his kids, acknowledging that they are his primary source of inspiration. When describing the world around him, he is essentially reflecting on the world that his son and daughter will grow up in.   Albertsson’s new album, 'Year of the Flesh', is his most ambitious yet and reflects a more refined sound. The album features more than 50 collaborators, of which there is a girls’ choir as well as a brass band. Thematically, Albertsson keeps exploring different aspects of modernity, our relation to the digital conditions and realities we live in, eating disorders, copyright and much more. The album was mixed by Icelandic producer Addi 800 (Blur, Steve Albini, William Orbit) and recorded with the help of frequent collaborator Kenn Hedegaard Eskildsen who also co-produced the album with Albertsson.   Dad Rocks! has played at festivals such as SXSW, CMJ, The Great Escape, Iceland Airwaves, SPOT, Berlin Music Week and Reeperbahn. Playing sometimes alone, sometimes with up to nine band members, Dad Rocks! has played more than 180 shows in the past couple of years around Europe, the UK and the US.
