Perfect - Played on local/internet radio (from the album Silent Running) Holy Spirit - (from the album Heaven on Earth) Heaven on Earth - (from the album Heaven on Earth) Fields of England - (aka House of Cards - from Fields of England) Common Courage - (from the album Fields of England_ White Dress - (from the album Silent Running) My Boy - (from the album Silent Running) The Boys are Back in Town - my take! (from the album Jailbreak - Thin Lizzy) Of Doubts & God - (from the album Heaven on Earth - a different version of this Voice for the Animals has been/is a "hit" on youtube) Album described as: Real Music for Real People - that'll do me!!! Nice recording, Tim..The rhythm section is tight and clean a la Tom Petty/Mark Knoffler. Good composition... Would like to hear the vocals a little more, but I'm nit-picking here... Great job. Your guitar and bass tracks are as good as your percussion work... Pro level performance, mixing, and arrangement. Really clean production and most excellent drum sound BRAVO old chap! Played your CD under the headphones undisturbed / undistracted on Sunday night, and I was mightily impressed. It sounds like you have (though I don't thank you have?) brought in a new / outside producer, and one who has a more expensive studio than you have used before. The tracks are more interesting than before, especially with the multi tracked vocals and harmony vocals. The Think Lizzy cover works very well. It's a brave attempt given that the original is such a definitive classic. No Curtis Mayfield credit for track 4 though(??). [That's two people who have drawn an - unintended on my part - connection!] As ever. Well done, sir!! Good review from Rootstime (in Dutch but can be translated): www.rootstime.be/CD%20REVIEUW/2012/JAN1/CD76.html In the county of Somerset in southwestern England [now France!] resident singer-songwriter Tim Bragg is through the recent years one of the best Roots Time reviewer found musicians. The man brings along almost every year a new album and his song writing abilities seem inexhaustible. As long as this artist still our positive reviews of his musical performances will also appreciate it sends us again and again to his most recent release of yet another review on these pages. So now we got the CD "Revamped 1", 1 / 1 compilation album of older songs for the first time are no longer available records of Tim Bragg could be heard. It's about ten what reprocessed ("revamped") tracks from the CD "Fields Of England", "Silent Running", Take The Fruit? "And" Heaven On Earth ". In addition we also have a new song "The Fighting's Over" and called on the newly found peace in the turbulent years of Northern Ireland. This CD is completed by a slower than the original charged cover version of Thin Lizzy' classic "The Boys Are Back In Town" from the brilliant album "Jailbreak" from 1976 to the Irish hard rock band around in 1986, deceased singer-bassist Phil Lynott. Our favorite tracks from this compilation are the new number, the cover song, and from his own work, we prefer the song "Rise Above It," "Change Of Heart" rhythmic "Holy Spirit", the instrumental is very beautiful "Fields Of England ', Mick Jagger reminiscent of the "White Dress" and put the intimate folk ballad "Of God and Doubts". In the accompanying CD booklet promises us more Tim Bragg 'Revamped' albums and this CD as "Number 1" in the title has been given, this will probably indeed be a sequel to knit. Left for us, because we listen to are still very fond of the many beautiful songs and the fine voice of the sympathetic British musician. (Valsam) I love your voice at the beginning of "Perfect" and the soft guitar line (liked the flute at the beginning). I like the electric violin sound in "Holy Spirit", like gaelic music. "Field of England" is great for its lyrics, and I love the guitar line. Great song! "My boy" makes me want to do all the things you sing about with people I love (since I don't have a boy of my own!) and I would see friendship GROW!!! All your songs are very inspiring, they open our eyes on simple things that we don't always take time to enjoy... Keep up the good work Tim!! Songs available on itunes etc and: www.amazon.co.uk www.amazon.com Tim Bragg the Englishman who lives in France is no stranger to RockTimes - even if his records haven't always got a good review! The most common critic about his records were their production - especially the sound. But in the meantime this British man is no longer keen on that sound too because his new record 'Revamped1' includes - besides two exceptions - material from the past which he has worked on again and which he is introducing to his audience once again. The songs come from Bragg's records 'Fields of England.' 'Silent Running' 'Take the Fruit' and 'Heaven on Earth' supplemented by the new song 'The Fighting's Over' and a very cool version of the Thin Lizzy classic 'The Boys are Back in Town'. The fact that Bragg is a good songwriter was never in doubt. (even though he had little up and downs) and he shows his qualities as a songwriter straight away with the opener 'Rise Above It' , a relaxed ('shooting from the hips') pop-rock track with drive, which goes directly to the ears and which also has a very fine guitar solo. Not any less good is 'Change of Heart' which comes with some pop-appeal. nevertheless a catchy track with a really good refrain which you'll sing along when you listen to it for a second time. Phil ('the fighter') Lynott plays a big part in the life of this 'French-by-choice' musician. Therefore the new song 'The Fighting's Over' is about the Irish man who died in 1986. The song is highlighted with a cool clarinet which gives some beautiful accents. [For the record The Fighting's Over is about The Troubles in Northern Ireland - and the 'clarinet' is me on the Electric windsynth playing SAX!]. And as we are talking about Lynott: 'The Boys are Back in Town' is played in an interesting and slower version with acoustic guitar and rhythm section. Somehow there is also a melancholic feel and the track has got some kind of a 'lounge feeling' (in a positive sense). Great! Another very strong song is 'Common Courage'. dominated by the acoustic guitar and good singing; with it a cool refrain and beautiful song-flow and therefore you have winner! Also a total fat 'must have' is 'Fields of England', there's a folky touch and critical lyrics. 'Holy Spirit' has got the beautiful sound of Sarah Samson’s electric violin which gives that track profundity and atmosphere.this really good set is finished by – (before the short 'Rise Above It’ reprise) - 'Of Doubt's and God' which is also kept acoustic with thoughtful lyrics. Not just here - Bragg is being beautifully supported in singing by Cathryn.W and Ann.Smith. Because of specific circumstances (which are too boring to explain here) I couldn't make a direct sound comparison with the album that has been reviewed before. but that what comes out of your stereo on 'Revamped 1' sounds very decent and good. From that position I would recommend to everybody who is interested to listen to songs like 'Rise Above It' or 'Change of Heart' , Fields of England' or 'The Boys...' not every song might be a Number One hit - but on how many albums do you have that? Finally, a very clear: thumbs up!!! An new version of Fields of England' is already announced and that's definitely a pleasant anticipation! Revamped 1 March 25, 2012 at 8:19 pm · Filed under Music, Spirituality/Philosophy, Folk, neo-folk·Tagged English green My Boy, faith and doubt, Fields of England, God, Holy Spirit, questions, religions, spirituality, Thin Lizzy, Tim Bragg, Van Morrison Revamped 1 by Tim Bragg This revamped compilation of songs comes from a number of previous albums that are no longer available, although listeners are rewarded with one new song,The Fighting’s Over, and a pleasant slow cover of the Thin Lizzy classic, TheBoys are Back in Town. Tim Bragg offers a number of memorable melodies and catchy guitar riffs, notably in the opening song, Rise Above It and in Of Doubts and God. This album explores love and loss, whether it’s looking for an elusive girl in a white dress or a dad’s pride in his son. My Boy contrasts completely with Harry Chapin’s estranged son in the bittersweet The Cat’s in the Cradle. This dad takes time out for walks by the river with his boy, perfect walks where he can take pride that his boy is growing into a man. Not every song has to talk about love, however. Common Courage suggests something else is needed. The re-release of Fields of England is timely, given the Con-Dem government’s recently announced scheme to wipe out planning laws in order to allow a property developer’s free-for-all. This would make an excellent soundtrack for a YouTube video protested at George Osborne’s scheme to bulldoze the fields of England into oblivion. This album is permeated by a sense of spirituality, reminiscent of Van Morrison’sAvalon Sunset, especially in the track, Holy Spirit with its commendation of quiet meditation. The catchy Heaven on Earth suggests that you can find heaven on earth, working the land. In Of Doubts and God though, Bragg declares with frank honesty that, ‘I’ve got doubts about everything’ and that ‘I don’t know anything about anything’. This questioning attitude is the mark of true faith in which the Way is a Journey rather than ‘The Answer’ to everything. Like much of Bragg’s work, this song provokes deeper thought that is not dispelled by its infectious melody. The production values on this album are high, given that it is self-published, but it’s a shame that no lyrics were included on the CD booklet. That’s only a minor criticism. It’s superb. Let’s hope that we won’t have to wait too long forRevamped 2. The striking cover of Revamped 1. Revamped 1 is available for download onAmazon.co.uk for £7.49 or £0.89 per track or from ITunes for £7.99 or £0.79 per track. David Kerr Tim Bragg "Revamped" Own label; 2011 www.myspace.com/timbragg This is indeed a revamped album of reworked prior songs, new material, and a nice cover tune. Bragg has sort of a classic singer/songwriter style as opposed to the traditional and other folk categories. In fact, there is a mainstream soul, light R&B quality at times that reminds me of Hall & Oates. Especially impressive is that he performs most of this himself and has very professional sounding songs as a result. There are a few guest musicians helping with clarient, violin, and lead guitar. The songs do get a bit too ‘mainstream’ for me at times, but there is a lot of quality in all of the songs that would have an audience. “Fields of England” and “Common Courage” are my favorites from his original songs. But it is exciting to see he is a Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) fan and recorded a slower “The Boys are Back in Town” for this album. By slowing it down, he reminds listeners of the great songwriting qualities Lynott had, and it was not all about those blasting double leads (but those were fun, too). Hopefully Tim Bragg can take this mature music and get it to the right audience. © David Hintz
